Learn Why Your Tax Law Firm’s Website or Social Media isn’t Having the Impact You Want

Your clients are out there and hiring other firms - and there is a reason they are passing over yours.

Dear Tax Lawyer,

Are you tired of spending time or money revamping your firm’s online presence?

You’re not alone.

Many tax law firms waste precious time – and many billable hours – rewriting their bio for the hundredth time, posting on social media only to get ignored by the algorithm, or giving up their time for a free consult only to never see that client again.

It doesn’t have to be like that.

Online marketing is a different beast from tax law.

And all the expertise you picked up in law school, practicing, and dealing with the IRS hasn’t prepared you.

Yet online marketing is the method not only with the biggest potential reach for new paying clients to find you – but you can also use it to select for your ideal client type.

Without leads, you lose...

  • Time spent on marketing and giving free advice that could be more profitably spent billing clients for your expertise.
  • Budget to pay for ads and website updates – ironically resulting in a further decline of new clients as your marketing stagnates and competitors continue to innovate
  • Talent who could expand your firm’s specializations to other firms

But the Right clients give you...

  • Paid, meaningful work, instead of days spent giving free consults to people with no intention of hiring you
  • Case studies showcasing how much money you saved a client  or recovered for their business, keeping them from having to downgrade their style of living or even saving their marriage!
  • Renewed camaraderie as formerly stressed partners once again say “good morning” with a smile.

You’ve might have already tried to:

Do it Yourself

You’re smart – marketing is definitely less challenging than law school, moving up through your firm, or even starting your own.

So while you can do it – you lose the leverage of years if not decades of experience you’ve painstakingly built up.

Hire Cheap Marketing “Help”

With sites like Upwork and Fiverr – finding cheap marketing “talent” is easy.

And if you know exactly what you want – and are willing to lose a bit of money upfront finding someone who gives you quality work – sites like these can be a very affordable way of getting simple tasks done.

But these workers will never be the partner you’re looking for who really “gets” your firm and has the marketing chops to take your firm to the next level.

Work with an Agency

Agencies have lots of case studies and experience – and a variety of price ranges to choose from.

Some even work specifically with tax law firms.

They’ve developed a system they’ve generalized to fit as many tax law firms as possible – and they are looking for how your firm fits into their mold – instead of the other way around.

They aren’t really looking for what makes your firm unique.

Or keeps your current and former clients raving and unable to stop recommending you to their colleagues.

A Different Option

Hi, I’m Ryan Stallard – The Tax Attorney Marketer – known for Compliant Marketing.

A business owner who loves learning (and talking) about tax strategies, legal business entities, and – of course marketing.

I choose to work with tax lawyers specifically because I believe in your mission to empower business owners through tax planning and IRS resolution based on accurate knowledge of statute, Treasury/IRS policy, and court cases.

Here’s what I do differently:

My Process

When a Tax Lawyer comes to me for help determining why their website is not attracting many new clients or the wrong type of clients, the first thing I do is ask them a few questions:

  • What is the profile of their most successful clients?
  • What is the most common service new clients hire them for?
  • A link to their online website and/or social media.

I then look through their online presence to see what they are putting out into the world that sets them apart.

Often it’s a combination of their:

  • Mission
  • Founding Story
  • Areas of Specialization
  • Client Interaction
  • Collaborations
  • IP

But it’s not easy because most firms hide their USP in:

  • Bios filled with credentials and awards with unclear relevance to their client’s situation
  • Menu-style home pages that showcase what services they offer rather than which problems those services solve
  • Vague and generic promises that fail to build trust
  • Pages filled with legalese that try to teach their clients to read and think like lawyers instead of showcasing how hiring them saves the client time and money
  • Calls to Action that don’t match the page’s message.

Once I’ve completed my analysis, I deliver a short (5-10 minute) video report of the firms’ website and social media which includes:

  • My initial impressions from the point of view of their ideal client.
  • How that user would navigate through their site.
  • The biggest “blocks” I see that stop their client from taking action.
  • Some quick wins they could make to improve their online presence.
